Toronto Harbourfront. Lately, it's a rapidly changing part of the city. However, beyond and below the hustle of flashing lights, lies a powerful historical landscape.

Winston Anderson invites you to join him as he unearths a part of Toronto-that-was. What might be described as a meandering jaunt along the lakeshore will have you enthralled every step of the way, as we explore sights both obvious and forgotten, old and new.

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear?

Wear weather-appropriate clothing. Most importantly, wear comfortable footwear suitable for walking and standing.

Are there washrooms nearby?

Yes, there are public washrooms near the meeting point. You may choose to go before we depart for the tour.

How far will we walk?

The tour is approximately 3 km in walking distance, over mostly flat terrain.

What's the best way to get there (e.g. driving, transit, etc.)?

If driving, take extra time to park & walk to starting point. Expect congestion and parking expensive. If subway, it’s a 10-minute walk SW from Union Subway Station. If taking transit south on Spadina Ave, you can get off at Fort York Blvd stop and walk east for 9 mins. Lots of places to lock bikes.

What if it's raining?

We typically only cancel events if the weather is especially bad (i.e. would interfere with the experience even with proper preparation) and will let you know as far in advance as possible. If raining, bring an umbrella (or similar). We will bring a few extra umbrellas just in case.

What happens at the end of the tour?

You will have the option to join Winston at the Music Garden Café, just east of the ending point with anyone else who wishes to come. The establishment closes at 5 pm, so we'll have at least an hour to chat.

Organized by
